James Barlow

Chief Executive Officer

James Barlow, CEO of BZI and InnovaTech, has been an entrepreneur since his teenage years and continues to lead some of the most innovative companies in the construction industry. Under his leadership, BZI has become a national leader in technology-driven steel erection, while InnovaTech designs and manufactures groundbreaking equipment that sets new standards for safety, efficiency, and simplicity.

Since 2016, James has guided BZI’s growth from 80 to over 1,000 employees and driven a tenfold increase in revenue. His vision for innovation, paired with a commitment to people and process, has positioned BZI and its affiliates at the forefront of modern construction and manufacturing.

Thomas Harker

Chief Operations Officer

Thomas Harker is the Chief Operations Officer at BZI. As one of the first five employees at the company, his career started as a farmhand, erecting pole barns and pre-engineered buildings in his hometown of Southern Utah.

Thomas has held a variety of roles at BZI, including field hand, foreman, superintendent, and regional manager. He’s overseen structural steel, pre-engineering, and specialty welding projects.

Currently, as COO, Thomas oversees all company operations. He is responsible for leading all team members and general contractors for each project, ensuring the right policies and procedures are followed to create a safe working environment while completing projects on time.

Roger Howard

Chief Human Resources Officer

Roger Howard is the Chief Human Resources Executive for BZI Steel, leading a team of over 800 team members committed to creating unrivaled new standards for safety, simplicity and efficiency with their patented construction equipment. He brings more than 27 years of experience in various sectors including public, private, and non-profit. He has a successful track record of drastically reducing turnover and enhancing employee performance. His mission is to nurture a culture of excellence, engagement, and empowerment that drives business performance and employee success.

Roger is passionate about leadership and employee development, helping people achieve their greater potential, and contributing to the team and the community.

Jesus Cadena

Chief Safety Officer

As the company’s Chief Safety Officer, Jesus Cadena has created policies and procedures at BZI that minimize risk and ensure the safety of the company’s team members. He is responsible for enforcing policies and procedures, overseeing all safety protocols, developing improved safety training, and analyzing what actions need to occur when incidents happen. Before he was appointed CSO, he was a Regional Safety Coordinator and a Safety Representative and has recently joined BZI’s SteelTech Academy – a unique two-week safety and construction training and continuing education program that has issued more than 4,800 certifications since 2019.

Guy Nielsen

Chief Financial Officer

Guy Nielsen serves as the Chief Financial Officer of BZI, playing a pivotal role in the company’s strategic and financial initiatives. Over the past seven years, Guy has expertly guided BZI through significant transformations, assisting the CEO to drive growth and innovation. His unique blend of skills, coupled with his dedication to excellence, has positioned him as a vital asset to BZI.

Spencer Douglas

Chief Marketing Officer

Spencer Douglas is the Chief Marketing Officer at BZI, where he has spent the past three years elevating the company’s brand and messaging while building distinct identities for its affiliates. Known for his strategic vision and collaborative leadership, Spencer leads by putting the brand first and fostering cohesion. With over 15 years of experience in sales, business management, and marketing across industries, including manufacturing, distribution, and accounting, he brings both breadth and depth to his role. Spencer holds a Master’s Degree in Accountancy and a B.S. in Accounting from Southern Utah University and remains active in Rotary International and local nonprofit advisory boards.

Stephen Sansom

General Counsel

Stephen Sansom serves as BZI’s General Counsel overseeing all legal aspects and initiatives of the company. He brings a successful track record of more than 18 years of both private practice and in-house legal experience. Prior to joining BZI, Stephen was a Partner at Holland & Hart, LLP where he specialized in intellectual property and commercial disputes.  Stephen also worked as Associate General Counsel for Basic Research, LLC and its affiliated entities.  Stephen received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brigham Young University and his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law.
