What Truly Binds a Team?

READ MOREAt BZI, skill development and safety best-practices are matters of great importance and investment. Four years ago, we created a unique and powerful learning platform for our team – BZI’s SteelTech Academy.
The academy provides a springboard for team members to accelerate career opportunities through training in technical skills, professional development, and teaches vital safety practices and procedures. SteelTech’s instructional and safety programs have resulted in more than 4,800 certifications since its founding in 2019.
The SteelTech Academy experience for new team members begins with an in-depth focus on our culture. The principles of Teamwork, Innovation, and Action are threaded into every course on safety, quality control, and technology use.
New team members take safety classes, including an OSHA-10 Safety Course with certified trainers, enabling team members to begin their work on day one. We train team members on the safe operation of common jobsite equipment, including actual practical operation of the machines and how to conduct the daily safety checks.
SteelTech’s bolting class covers the basic requirements needed to meet the standards designated by the AISC where team members use all the skills and techniques taught in all the previous classes.
Our final class for a new team member is a fundamental welding course providing each team member a 3G and 4G welding certification. With these certifications in place, new team members become immediately effective when they arrive onsite where they’ll be teamed up with a mentor to train them on site-specific operations.
“‘Investing In Excellence’ is our commitment to continuous improvement in training and preparing our team to advance in their careers and deliver on our purpose of ‘High-Value Opportunities’. A skilled team will enable BZI to continue to lead the steel industry.” –James Barlow, CEO
